Bolda Szmrecsányi

Painter

is a courageous, experimental artist who has already achieved outstanding results whilst studying at university. Despite her young age, she excels in professional programmes and is determinedly realising her artistic vision. Having graduated in 2025 with a degree in graphic design from the University of Fine Arts in Budapest, she is now exploring ways to fully realise her potential in the fields of painting and porcelain painting (Hollóháza Porcelain Manufactory).

As well as numerous exhibitions in Hungary, she has already made a name for herself on the international art scene: on several occasions at the Salon d’Automne in Paris, at the Art Busan 2025 (BEXCO, South Korea) as well as Kiaf SEOUL 2026 Contemporary Art Fair. This was followed in June 2026 by an exhibition at the 54thegallery in London. In Vienna, her works were most recently exhibited at the Art at the Park 2026 and the Art Austria 2026 to be seen.

Her dynamic compositions combine fictional and realistic landscape elements, thereby creating a unique atmosphere.

Bolda Szmrecsányi’s painting does not seek to provide an exact representation of a specific geographical location, but is rather an inner reflection of an experience of the landscape, a mood or a moment in nature.

The power of the painting lies in its contrasts. The colours do not blend completely into one another, but rather layer upon one another, filling the picture with movement. Alongside horizontal smudges, there are also scratch-like lines and finer brushstrokes – as if they were tracing the direction of the wind or rain, or perhaps the layering of the earth.

Although we perceive the work as a landscape, it can also be interpreted as a ‘landscape of the soul’, in which the external elements of nature serve as metaphors for human emotions (fear, hope, constancy).
